CGR Program
The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) sponsors the CGR program.
The Certified Graduate Remodelor (CGR) designation assures you that your remodeler:
- Has met NAHB (National Association of Home Builders) prescribed standards of business practices.
- Has a proven track record of successfully completing projects.
- Has completed relevant educational requirements.
- Pledges to uphold the CGR Code of Ethics.
All Certified Graduate Remodelors subscribe to a Code of Ethics based on professional workmanship and customer satisfaction. They pledge to:
- Conduct business affairs with professionalism and skill.
- Provide the best remodeling value possible.
- Protect the consumer through the use of high quality materials and remodeling.
- Meet all their financial obligations in a responsible manner.
- Comply with the spirit and letter of their business contracts, and manage all employees, subcontractors, and suppliers with fairness and honor.
- Keep informed regarding public policies and other essential information which affect their business interests and those of the building industry as a whole.
- Comply with the rules and regulations prescribed by law and government agencies for the health, safety, and welfare of the community.
- Provide timely response to items covered under warranty.
- Seek to resolve any controversy in which they may become involved through a non-litigation dispute resolution mechanism.
- Refrain from harming, either directly or indirectly, the professional reputation, practice or employment of another remodelor.
In order to maintain the CGR designation, all CGR's must re-certify every three years after their initial certification. Recertification requirements include attending remodeling or business related seminars, trade shows, and educational programs, as well as providing insurance verification. Obtaining other professional designations also counts towards recertification. Equally important are letters of recommendation from suppliers and financial institutions.
CAPS designation
The NAHB Remodelors Council - in collaboration with the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), NAHB (National Association of Home Builders) Research Center and NAHB Seniors Housing Council - developed the CAPS designation as a reliable means of identifying professionals who are specifically equipped to work with older and maturing adults to remodel their homes for living out their lives in their home.
The American Association for Retired Persons (AARP) landmark study Fixing to Stay sent two messages to the residential remodeling industry: Americans prefer to remain in their homes as they mature rather than seek assisted living and other arrangements. Older consumers want a reliable means of identifying a professional remodeler they can trust to remodel their homes.
The CAPS designation assurances Hudson Remodeling can design and build aesthetically enriching, barrier free living environments. Charlie Hudson understands the codes and standards, common barriers and solutions, product ideas and resources to enable the client to stay in his/her own home safely, independently and comfortably - to call a house a "home" for a lifetime.
