South Hill - Retaining Wall

The challenge: The home owners wanted to move the location of their rear entry, enlarge their kitchen, master bedroom, add a master bath, enlarge another bedroom and bath. The aim of the project was not just to enlarge the house, but to remedy a drainage problem. The rear of the lot is steep, including a small upper level of yard, stepping down to the patio at the rear of the house where the drainage problem existed.

2 Story Addition - Retaining Wall

Details:In order to excavate and remove the existing retaining wall, we moved a backhoe onto the small upper yard. It was the entertainment of the neighborhood. To solve the drainage problem, we installed a perforated pipe along the edge of the retaining wall - this pipe now channels runoff water into the storm drain. Note the newly installed larger rocks, more appropriate to retaining wall incorporated with existing rocks. The lower photo shows the new retaining wall in place along with the corner of the newly framed house extension. e retained the lower stair and added a handrail; the upper steps were reconstructed to match the lowers steps
