Kitchen and bathroom remodeling trends for 2016

Posted 30 November 2015 by Team Hudson

It’s a fact; homeowners are often on the lookout for trendy, inexpensive, easy ways –sometimes DIY ways – to improve their living spaces. Kitchen Remodel - November 2015

Some home remodeling design projects can lead to into improved function and appearance, and even a higher profit when it comes time to sell a home.

Below are some trends that Hudson Remodeling and our team have started seeing in Whatcom County, and hope to continue seeing in 2016.

Good to know! Off-white has been chosen as the “Color of the Year” for 2016.

Kitchen updates: Most can agree that a kitchen is often the heart of the home—especially when the kitchen has a great flow and design. Kitchens designed and built with custom cabinets, matching appliances, updated hardware and durable counter tops all help modernize a home.

Speaking of counter tops–laminate (yes, laminate!) is affordable and more stylish than ever before. Laminate hasn’t received a lot of respect over the years, but here’s the thing about laminate–whatever color or pattern you are envisioning, this long-lasting counter top material probably has that as an option. And did we mention it’s affordable?

Laminate countertopHomeowners are choosing laminate counter tops for their kitchen remodeling projects because the cost is usually less than half of natural stone or granite–choosing laminate can potentially save thousands of dollars on a kitchen remodel project.

Trending now are interesting matte finishes with subtle textures and patterns—to the left is an example of a laminate counter top Hudson Remodeling installed in a Bellingham, Washington area home in November 2015.  Looks great, right?

Bathroom remodels: Bathrooms are the most used room in many households. Larger showers are in, giant jettedCustom shower enclosure with built in bench tubs are out. Not only do whirlpool tubs use a lot of water (like they will drain your hot water tank), they simply don’t get used as often as a shower.

Building a larger walk-in shower with seating, easy to maintain tile surfaces, spa like shower heads and even stylish safety bars, is definitely on trend for 2016.
